Multiple Mes Project Artist Statement

For my multiple mes project I decided to make a scene where I was waiting for the bus. The subject matter of my piece is meant to be realistic and casual. For this project I used Photoshop and Google. I began with brainstorming ideas, which was honestly one of the hardest parts for me. I settled on the idea of the bus stop and from there I began creating it. I searched Google for images to use and took photos of myself to add. I at first had a few different ideas on how to do the bus stop and I was conflicted in which to choose, but I finally settled on the version I liked. I didn’t have much of an inspiration for this project, but I knew I wanted it to capture something you might do every or every other day, hence the idea of the bus stop. (The piece is a bit exaggerated though). This project was interesting and I think it challenged my skill of decision making and recognizing what I can do and add to make my projects better. I think my final piece is kind of close to what I imagined and there isn’t too much I would change about. If I did change something though, it would be the poses I did. I’m pretty satisfied with my project.

Multiple Mes Project [6]

This class I did a bit of editing with lighting and more touch ups with erasing. I went and cleaned up some of the sloppy erasing to make it look sharp and more realistic. Along with that I went back and edited the lighting a bit. There are also a couple of additions to the photo. If you look closely on the sidewalk, you can see that I added a pedestrian walking their dog. I also added a bird in the sky. I did this to make it seem more lively. Next class I might add some more birds or pedestrians (?0. By then, I should be done with my project.

Multiple Mes Project Update [5]

This class I finished erasing the background of another one of my photos. I only have one photo left to erase. This class I just finished erasing and messed around with filters and lighting to make it seem more realistic. Of course, I’m not done yet or satisfied with it yet, but I feel like I’m nearing that point. (I also decided to go with the first photo below to use as my final, but I’ll still show the other one for proof of what I did.)

Multiple Mes Project Update [3]

I have only gotten to fully erasing the background of one of the photos I took. I began to erase another photo which I’m almost done with. Because of the lighting, I found it a bit hard to erase the background around the area of my jeans and shoes since they’re lightly colored and almost blend into the back of the picture. After I finished, I added the photo with the completely erased background to the bus stop setting I chose.

Multiple Mes Project Update [2]

Today I took the photos for my project. I didn’t take a lot photos though. I knew the idea I was aiming for but at first I wasn’t sure how to execute it, which resulted in me not taking a lot of photos. But I think, at least for now, I got the photos and poses I wanted. They are very simple because I’m putting myself in a simple environment that doesn’t require too much. Once I took my photos I uploaded them to my computer and Google Drive and started to map out how I want it to look. I haven’t done a lot of erasing, only a little bit (sloppily) since I don’t intend to get into detail just yet. Along with my photos I began to add some of the props into Photoshop to see how things will look.

(My plan/what I’ve done so far)

I was suggested to try to edit myself into an empty background in a photo that doesn’t already have people in it. So, I pulled up another photo of a bus stop with no people in the background and added myself to it again just to see how it might look.

(version 2)

I also really like how this version looks too and I think it has the potential to turn out good, so it’s something I have to decide on.

Multiple Mes Project Proposal

For a while I was stumped at what I should do for this project, but I came up with the idea of putting myself either on a bus or at a bus stop waiting for my bus to come. I think it’s kind of simple and not very creative but it was one of the ideas that came to my mind that I think I could pull off. For this project I’ll probably photograph myself in front of the green screen maybe 3 or 4 times. As stated before I plan to incorporate myself on or waiting for a bus. Because of this I’m leaning more towards the idea of me waiting for a bus because I have the idea to make myself look like I’m either running late or missed my bus. For the accessories it will probably be simple things like a suitcase, a bike etc. I don’t have most of the accessories I plan to add, either way I’m not sure how I’d get it to and from school so I’ll have to Photoshop most of the accessories into the project.

Artist Statement

My artwork is meant to depict things in relation to nature and art. It mainly consists of blues, purples, and pinks. Although, I do feel like I could’ve done a better job at actually presenting the idea. I think my piece does focus more on the idea of how it pleases the eye. When people look at my piece I want them to think of the beauty in surroundings and art. I want them to feel almost at ease or pleased.

I used photos that I gathered from Google Images and then rounded up all the images I wanted to use and began working in Photoshop. It was a long process, and I thought it would be harder that I thought but it’s something I got the hang of. I gathered at least 15 to 20 pictures to use for my collage. I made sure that I knew what my plan was so I had pictures that all gave a sense of unity when put together. I had a side view photo of me taken, which I would upload to Photoshop and use as my base for my silhouette. It took a lot of rearranging to get the look I liked. I didn’t even end up using all the photos I gathered in the first place, which is fine. When I finished the silhouette part I added a background that would create contrast to make my silhouette pop. I didn’t have a person that I used as an inspiration for this piece, but I used my interest in my surroundings as inspiration. It’s about how nature and art correlate in terms of the beauty behind it.

From creating this artwork I think I learned a lot in the basics of Photoshop. It taught me things like making unity, contrast, and even just challenged my skill in thinking differently in layout. I don’t do too many things like collages since I do more drawing, so for me at least it required me to more thinking in how it will look and how everything will go together in the end. Also because I kept overthinking a lot and changing things. The final piece is kind of what I imagined but not entirely. Overall, I think I did well and I am satisfied with the way it came out.

(decided to swap the white brick wall background for a black one to add more contrast.)
